Uruguayan Edinson Cavani, the Manchester United striker, revealed why he had rejected offers to move to Juventus and Inter Milan in past seasons.
Cavani’s photos recently decorated the walls leading to the stadium of Diego Armando Maradona, “the stronghold of Naples”, after he played for the southern team for 3 years, before moving to Paris Saint-Germain.
Cavani said, in remarks highlighted by the Italian site “Calciomercato”: “I saw these pictures and I was very excited. It is another way of affection from Naples that I will never forget, and my feeling doubled when I saw my children admiring this mural.”
He added: “Thanks to Napoli fans. I will always be grateful to you, which is why I said no to many Italian clubs, including Juventus, who called me a lot, as well as Inter.”
He finished: “I could not do this because of Napoli fans. If I think about Naples, I think about joy, because I know that I have done a lot for them and they still honor me for what I have done.”
