Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp revealed the absence’s length of defender Joel Matip, who suffered an injury in a draw with West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League on Sunday.
Klopp said Matip would be out for three weeks due to a thigh injury.
The 29-year-old defender’s injury comes to worsen Liverpool’s suffering as defenders Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez were absent for a long time with injury.
“The usual things in such injuries … it will take about three weeks,” Klopp told a news conference after the 0-0 draw with Newcastle United on Wednesday.
Liverpool top the league with 33 points from 16 matches.
The defending champions will face Southampton next Monday in their first match in 2021.
