Liverpool guaranteed to keep the top of the Premier League by winning a landslide 7-0 away to Crystal Palace, on Saturday, at the opening of the 14th round.
Seven Liverpool’s goals were signed by Takumi Minamino (4), Sadio Mane (36), Roberto Firmino (44 and 68), Jordan Henderson (52) and Mohamed Salah (81 and 84).
With this result, Liverpool raises its score to 31 points, 6 points ahead of Tottenham, who plays tomorrow night against Leicester City, while Crystal Palace has frozen at 18 points in 12th place temporarily.
Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp preferred to keep the Egyptian star Mohamed Salah on the bench, and the Japanese Minamino participated alongside Firmino and Mane in the front line.
Triple Georginio Wijnaldum, Naby Keita and Jordan Henderson exchanged the roles in the middle of the stadium, while Fabinho stood alongside Joel Matip deep in the back line, with the support of Arnold and Robertson.
On the other hand, the Crystal Palace coach resorted to a 4-4-2 method of play, with the back line from Nathaniel Clyne, Cheikhou Kouyate, Gary Cahill and Patrick Van Aanholt.
And on the wings, Jeff Schlupp and Eberechi Eze, Luka Milivojevic and James McArthur were stationed in the middle of the field, in exchange for roles between Wilfried Zaha and Jordan Ayew in the front line.
Liverpool opened the scoring early in the 3rd minute, when Minamino received a pass from Mane, to hit a ground ball far from Guaita.
Crystal Palace tried to adjust the score through a quick attack, but Liverpool goalkeeper Alison cut the ball before Zaha reached it, to reach Milivojevic, who tried to take advantage of the goalkeeper’s progress, but the latter managed to stop it in the 17th minute.
Ayew took advantage of a dispersed header from Fabinho, to quickly launch on the right side, before directing a ball in front of the goal, away from the uncontrolled Zaha in the 24th minute.
Ayew’s header fell into Alison’s arms after a free kick by Milivojevic in the 28th minute, and a minute later, Robertson lifted a cross that Matip’s header put the ball next to the right post of the opponent’s goal.
Alison saved his goal from a direct shot by Schlupp, after a corner kick by Eze in the 32nd minute, but Liverpool managed to boost their lead in the 35th minute, through Mane, who received a pass from Firmino, to turn around on the outskirts of the penalty area, and hit a low ball in the goal.
Zaha kicked the ball from the right to pass next to the right post in the 40th minute, and Liverpool finished the first half with the 3rd goal in the 44th minute, after Robertson sent a perfect cross, which Firmino received elegantly, before quietly putting it in the net.
Liverpool seemed intent on scoring more goals in the second half, and scored the 4th goal in the 52nd minute, through Henderson, who met Arnold’s pass, with a powerful shot from outside the penalty area that hugged the net.
After missing the opportunity for his second goal in the 56th minute, Sadio Mane left the stadium and raised anger on his face, and Mohamed Salah entered his place.
The ball reached Van Aanholt on the left side, and a powerful shot past next to the left post in the 63rd minute, before Firmino was able to score the 5th Liverpool goal in the 68th minute, when Salah passed the ball to Firmino, who bypassed the goalkeeper and skillfully put the ball into the net.
Salah refused to not enter his name on the scorers list, and scored the 6th goal for his team in the 81st minute, when he followed a header from Matip, with a quick header into the net.
Then the Egyptian star returned in the 84th minute, to score his 2nd and 7th personal goal for his team, when he received a pass from substitute Chamberlain, to shoot a curved ball that dazzledly settled in the goal, to end the match with the Reds’ victory 7-0.
