Everton returned Chelsea to London, losing 0-1 on Saturday evening, in the 12th round of the Premier League.
Everton player Gylfi Sigurðsson scored the game’s only goal from a penalty kick in the 22nd minute.
Everton raised its score with this victory to 20 points, to temporarily rise to seventh place, while Chelsea’s balance stuck at 22, and is threatening to lose the third place.
Chelsea goalkeeper Edward Mendy early dominated Richardson’s low shot in the fifth minute, but the following minutes did not see a danger to the two teams’ goals, although the possession ratio was better for the away team.
Calm remained in control, until the referee awarded a penalty in favor of Everton, after Calvert-Lewin was hit by Mendy in the area, and Icelandic Sigurðsson successfully executed the kick in the 22nd minute.
Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford starred in countering a neat free kick by James Chelsea back in the 25th minute, and from another free kick, the ball reached the head of Giroud, who sent it in front of the goal to Zuma, who shot it in the position of the goalkeeper in the 27th minute.
Alex Iwobi’s shot rebounded from Chelsea’s defense in the 35th minute, and five minutes later, the Nigerian international kicked off with a counter-attack, and the ball reached Sigurdsson, and the latter sent the ball towards the far post to the dashing Richarlison, who blocked Mendy’s attempt.
Chelsea had a chance to equalize the score in the first minute of the second half, when Mount wanted to take advantage of goalkeeper Pickford’s lead from his own goal, to try to shoot from afar, but the ball rebounded from the crossbar out of the field.
Brazilian Richarlison returned to his quarrels, forcing Mendy to make a new save in the 51st minute, and one minute later, Mina’s header passed over the Chelsea goal.
Although Chelsea’s possession of the ball reached 72%, Everton remained more dangerous through his counter-attacks, and the referee awarded him a penalty kick in the 63rd minute, before he retracted his decision after using the video, due to an infiltration by Calvert Lewin.
With the passage of time, Lampard realized his need for substitutions, so Tammy Abraham entered the place of Havertz, but Chelsea more than relied on high crosses on the part of James, despite the brilliance of Everton’s defense in air games.
The referee whistled a free kick for Chelsea, Mount took it to bounce his shot off the post in the 81st minute, and Giroud failed to follow Werner’s pass from the right side and knock it high in the 84th minute.
Chelsea was so affected from the injured players, especially Hakim Ziyech, and ended the match loosing against Everton, that did a outstanding start in the premier league this season.
