Liverpool settled Tottenham Hotspur with a dramatic scenario, 2-1, in the match at Anfield Stadium this evening, Wednesday, in the clash of the 13th round of the English Premier League.
Liverpool scored a double, Mohamed Salah (26) and Roberto Firmino (90), and Tottenham’s only goal was scored by Heung Min Son (33).
With that result, Liverpool rose to the top of the table with 28 points, while Tottenham stuck at 25 points, dropping to second place.
The first attempt in the match came in the 11th minute in favor of Liverpool, after Robertson sent a cross, Firmino raised it with a header that was blocked by Lloris.
Aurier tried to surprise Alison with a tricky ball falling from the center of the field with the Brazilian goalkeeper advancing in the 20th minute, but his ball slightly higher the crossbar.
The response came directly from Liverpool in the 21st minute, with an incursion by Robertson into the left side of the penalty area, sending a cross-ball to Salah, who was free of supervision, who in turn hit a ball in the middle of the goal, which was caught by Lloris.
Liverpool opened the scoring in the 26th minute, after Jones penetrated into the penalty area, to push the Spurs’ defense away, the ball set up in front of Salah, to hit a powerful ball that hit Alderweireld’s foot by deceiving Lloris and settled into the net.
Jones almost added the second goal in the 29th minute, with a ground shot from inside the penalty area, which was successfully saved by Lloris.
With the complete control of Liverpool in the first half, Mane tried to score a goal with a scissor shot in the 32nd minute, which Lloris caught.
Tottenham adjusted the score in the 33rd minute, after a remarkable start from Lo Celso from the midfield, to pass a perfect ball to Son, who was alone with Alison and hit a ball that find the goal’s way.
In the 35th minute, Firmino hit the ball from inside the penalty area, Lloris was brilliant in the response.
Mane shot a powerful ball from the edge of the penalty area in the 41st minute, that Lloris caught easily into his arms, to end the first half with a 1-1 draw.
Tottenham started the second half strongly, with a ground shot from Burgoyne from inside the penalty area in the 46th minute, which passed shortly to the post.
Alison made a big passing mistake in the 50th minute, when Kane took the ball and hit a dropped one, before the Brazilian goalkeeper corrected the error by banishing it to a corner kick.
Kane continued to wake up in the second half, with a shot in the 51st minute from outside the penalty area, which went over the bar.
Salah reappeared with a shot from outside the penalty area in the 57th minute, which was successfully saved by Lloris.
Mourinho made the first switch for Tottenham in the 58th minute, with Moura descending at the expense of Lo Celso.
Tottenham missed the opportunity to score the second goal in the 63rd minute, after Son headed a ball to Bergwijn, who was alone with Alison and hit a ball in the post.
Soon after, Son sent a cross from a corner kick, the uncontrolled Kane placed a header over the bar strangely.
And from a quick counter-attack in the 67th minute, the ball reached Firmino in the penalty area, to hit a powerful ball that was caught by Lloris.
Liverpool almost added the second goal of Liverpool in the 73rd minute, with a missile from Mane from inside the penalty area, which hit the bar.
Mourinho pushed his second card in the 76th minute, by going down Reguilón at the expense of Bergwijn.
Kane appeared again in the 79th minute, with a shot from inside the penalty area, which passed shortly to the post.
Mourinho made the third substitution in the 87th minute by pushing Dele as Son’s expense.
Liverpool scored a deadly goal in the 90th minute, after Firmino met a cross from a corner kick, hitting a powerful header that landed Lloris’ net, to end the match with Liverpool’s 2-1 victory.
