Report: Sheffield Utd 2-3 Man Utd

Manchester United returned to the victories’ path, by defeating hosts Sheffield United 3-2, in the match that was hosted by Bramall Lane on Thursday evening, in the English Premier League’s 13th round.

Marcus Rashford scored two goals (26-51) and Anthony Martial one (33), while David McGoldrick scored two goals for Sheffield (5- 87).

With that result, Manchester raised its score to 23 points, to rise to 6th place, while Sheffield stuck at one point in last place.

Sheffield United opened the scoring early in the 5th minute, after Henderson made a mistake in passing the ball after being pressured by Burke, who seized the ball and passed it to McGoldrick, who in turn easily scored the ball into the net.

Sheffield almost added the second goal in the 16th minute, after Uncensored Fleck received a ground cross inside the penalty area, to shoot a powerful ball that passed shortly to the post.

Manchester United adjusted the score in the 26th minute, after Lindelof sent an amazing assist from the midfield to reach Rashford, who was alone in Ramsdale and hit a powerful ball into the net.

Manchester United added the second goal in the 33rd minute, a wonderful ball from Pogba that hit the Sheffield defense, and reached Martial, who was face to face with Ramsdale, and hit a weak ball at the beginning that the goalkeeper blocked, and the French followed it again in the net.

Manchester continued to take advantage of the large spaces in Sheffield’s defenses, and Rushford hit a strong ball in the 35th minute but the goalkeeper responsed brilliantly this time.

McGoldrick tried to adjust the score for Sheffield in the 37th minute, with a shot from the left side of the penalty area at a very narrow angle, which Henderson managed to block.

Burke hit a powerful ball from inside the penalty area in the 43rd minute, and Henderson sent it away to a corner kick, to end the first half with Manchester leading 2-1.

Manchester United killed the match in the 51st minute, after scoring the third goal of a quick counterattack initiated by Pogba, and contributed by Fernandes and Martial, and finished by Rashford with a ground shot from inside the penalty area, which passed under the goalkeeper’s hand and settled into the net.

Telles sent a deceptive cross from a corner kick in the 56th minute, which arrived to Bruno on the edge of the penalty area, to shoot a ball directly at the bird that went far from the goal.

Sheffield responded with a tricky corner in the 63rd minute, which was implemented by Fleck, shooting a ball directly towards the goal, which Henderson managed to block.

Greenwood appeared for the first time in the match, with a shot from the right side of the penalty area in the 67th minute, which was saved by Ramsdale.

Solskjaer made the first substitution in the 74th minute by pushing down Mata at Greenwood’s favor.

In a rare attacking appearance for Sheffield, Mousset hit a powerful ball from outside the penalty area in the 77th minute, which Henderson successfully caught.

Immediately afterwards, the response came with a cross from Martial from the left side, arriving to Mata, who fired a direct ball, and Ramsdale caught it.

Solskjaer pushed his second card in the 80th minute by dropping Van de Beek at the expense of Fernandes.

Sheffield scored the second goal in the 87th minute, after McGoldrick’s header exploited a cross from a corner kick.

Solskjaer substituted Martial with McTomenay in the 90th minute to secure the score.

In the first minute of aditionnal time, Sheffield almost scored a draw with a powerful shot from Moussett from inside the penalty area, Henderson brilliantly tackled it, and the match ended with Manchester’s 3-2 victory.
