Tommy Docherty’s family announced, Thursday, the death of the former Manchester United and Scotland coach, at the age of 92, after a long struggle with illness.

Docherty previously coached 12 clubs, including Chelsea and Aston Villa, and worked for a while in Australia after a busy career in stadiums during which he played 25 matches for Scotland between 1951 and 1959 and more than 300 matches in Preston North End.

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Tommy Docherty, who led us to FA Cup victory in 1977 with a thrilling, attacking team in the best traditions of Manchester United.” United said on Twitter.

Docherty worked at Old Trafford between 1972 and 1977 and the 2-1 FA Cup Final victory over Liverpool was among his most notable achievements.
